About:
After decades of being an organized group, the Guilford County Democratic Party (GCDP) is still running strong. Their goal has remained the same since the beginning: to get Democrats elected.
Bess Lewis, the current Executive Director of GCDP, spoke on two major achievements the GCDP has had over the years. In the 2004 presidential election, Guilford County was one of four counties in North Carolina to go blue (Democrat). Then, only six years later, Guilford County did not lose any Democratic seats, even though the state went red (Republican).
Campaigning is the major activity performed by the GCDP, and their continued work relies solely on community fundraising, local donations and volunteers. Its six auxiliary groups (Women, African American, Seniors, LGBT, Young and Progressive) provide most of this assistance.
However, the GCDP is always looking for people to either join their auxiliary groups or volunteer. Volunteering activities include office work, mailing, phone banks, voter sign-up and canvassing. Personal volunteer requests are also allowed.
